Pregnancy is a powerful time to deepen your intuitive awareness. One gentle and practical way to do this is by working with the chakra system — a map of seven energy centres that support your physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
When your chakras feel balanced, you’re more likely to experience a sense of calm, clarity and connection — all of which are deeply supportive for pregnancy and birth. Rather than something abstract, the chakras can become a simple, embodied tool to help you feel grounded, trust your body, and connect with your baby.
Many common fears or concerns in pregnancy can often be understood through this lens. For example, feeling anxious about coping with labour may relate to the base chakra — our centre of safety and support. Practices such as slow, deep breathing, visualising roots connecting you to the earth, or consciously relaxing the body can help bring a sense of stability and ease.
Birth is not only a physical process, but also a profound transformation. The chakras offer a way to prepare for this experience — practically, emotionally and spiritually.
Base Chakra (Mooladhara)
Grounding, safety and support
The base chakra is all about feeling safe in your body and your environment. In pregnancy, this can look like choosing a birth space where you feel comfortable and supported — whether that’s at home, in a birth centre, or in hospital.
A calm and secure environment helps the body soften and open during labour. Simple grounding practices such as walking in nature, resting, or focusing on your breath can support you to stay present and connected to your body.
Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana)
Creativity, flow and emotional connection
Your sacral chakra is the centre of creation — and during pregnancy, your body is already deeply immersed in this energy.
Supporting this chakra can be as simple as allowing yourself to feel. Creating space for emotions, connecting with your baby through meditation, and welcoming pleasure and rest all help encourage the natural flow of oxytocin — the hormone that supports both bonding and labour.
Gentle movement practices such as prenatal yoga, hip circles, or time in water can also help keep this energy flowing.
Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
Confidence, choice and inner power
The solar plexus relates to your sense of personal power and self-belief. During pregnancy, this often shows up in the decisions you make around your care, your birth preferences, and how you respond to outside opinions.
Taking time to explore your beliefs about birth, asking questions, and choosing what feels right for you can help build confidence. This is a time to trust your instincts and stand in your own knowing.
Heart Chakra (Anahata)
Love, compassion and connection
As your baby grows, many women naturally feel their heart opening in new ways. The heart chakra supports emotional connection — with yourself, your baby, and those around you.
Simple practices like placing your hands on your heart and womb, breathing deeply, or reflecting on gratitude can help nurture this connection. This gentle opening supports both bonding during pregnancy and the transition into motherhood.
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
Voice, expression and sound
The throat chakra invites you to express your needs and use your voice. This can be as practical as communicating clearly with your care providers, or as instinctive as making sound during labour.
There is also a well-known connection between a relaxed jaw and a relaxed pelvic floor. Practices such as humming, chanting, or sighing can help the body soften and open during birth.
Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
Intuition, visualisation and inner vision
Your third eye is the centre of intuition. Pregnancy can heighten this awareness, helping you tune into your body and your baby more deeply.
Visualisation is a simple and effective practice here. You might imagine the kind of birth experience you desire — not in terms of control, but in how you wish to feel: supported, calm, connected. Quiet reflection, meditation, or prenatal yoga can all help strengthen this inner connection.
Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
Trust, surrender and connection to something greater
The crown chakra represents your connection to something beyond yourself — however you understand that, whether as nature, spirit, or universal support.
In birth, this often comes through as a sense of surrender — allowing the process to unfold, moment by moment. Many women describe this as “getting out of their own way” and trusting their body’s innate wisdom.
Bringing it into practice

Working with the chakras doesn’t need to be complicated. It can begin with simply pausing, closing your eyes, and tuning into your body.
For example, you might bring your awareness to your womb space and ask: What do I need right now?
You may sense a colour, a feeling, or a simple knowing. As you breathe, imagine this supportive energy gently filling your body, then flowing down into the earth, helping you feel both nourished and grounded.
Balancing the chakras during pregnancy isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about building trust — in your body, your baby, and the unfolding journey of birth.
By combining practical preparation with intuitive awareness, you create a foundation for a birth experience that feels supported, empowered and deeply connected.
