“It is said that the moment a woman decides she is ready to have a baby, that is the moment she becomes a mother”.
Our new Yoga for Fertility Senior Trainer, Fiona Southwell, shares an intimate letter from a Yoga for Fertility teacher’s perspective.
Dear Woman Who Longs To Be With Child,
I am writing to you as a Fertility Yoga teacher who has had the privilege of witnessing the vulnerability and uncertainty in the eyes of every woman who walks into my class. I see the longing in your heart for a child, and I understand the isolation often accompanying this deep desire. Know you are not alone in this experience, I see you.
I am truly sorry this is your experience on your path to motherhood.
Infertility is a topic that is still met with silence and isolation, making the journey even more challenging for women, just like you. I hope to provide a sanctuary where you feel safe in a non-judgemental space where you can be vulnerable, feel seen, and find support in sharing your fertility journey (only if you wish) or just be witnessed in your presence.
I recently had a student express her gratitude for having a place where she could open up about her struggles with fertility. She found relief in letting go of secrecy and connecting with a community of women who understood her pain ( this is just one of many experiences that have been shared). Behind the statistics of infertility are real women, like you, who are grappling with the emotional toll it takes on their mental and emotional wellbeing.
We know that research shows stress has a significant role in fertility challenges, often leading to anxiety and depression. Through Fertility Yoga, which focuses on breath work, meditation, and feminine yoga (Asana), women can lower their stress levels, reconnect and trust their bodies. A feminine practice that is rooted in principles of acceptance, fluidity, softness, connection, and deep listening from within, is required at a time where perhaps you feel your body isn’t on your side, or is even part of you.
A Fertility Yoga class is an invitation for you to rebuild your relationship with yourself, your womb, and your fertility. In honouring your menstrual cycle, supporting your reproductive health, and cultivating self-compassion, you can tap into your inner strength and resilience as you navigate this personal experience.
An invitation to meet yourself where you are today, in this moment. A gesture to move your body, to create a softness & spaciousness in places that often feel tight & restricted. Space to feel your breath slowly caress your nostrils, to bring your mind to a place of calm and to build trust in your ability to find self-compassion within this journey.
Know that when you attend a specific Fertility Yoga class you can be confident you will meet a practice that was created for you, no matter where you are in your journey to motherhood.
It is said that the moment a woman decides she is ready to have a baby, that is the moment she becomes a mother. I find this so true as I know for me & women like you, from that moment everything we do, we hold our future baby in our consciousness and hearts.
” You are not only preparing for the conception of a child, you are preparing to birth a new version of yourself ”
This is the beauty of Yoga for Fertility. The ultimate feminine spiritual practice, honouring your feminine nature. Dedicating your yoga practice to honour your cycle, optimising your fertility by creating warmth, spaciousness & blood flow in your pelvis, and acknowledging your need for deep rest & restoration.
Often during our bleed, we can experience a time of mini griefs. This is the healing of a feminine yoga practice that permits us to surrender into this time of much needed support and healing. A time to foster self-compassion and rest the body.
I often say ” Sometimes the rest we need doesn’t come from sleep”.
Ultimately, Fertility Yoga is not about giving you false hope for a pregnancy, it is about empowering you to find hope within yourself.
It is an honour for me to witness women like you coming together, with hearts a little lighter and wombs a little warmer, as you embrace your feminine wisdom and trust in yourselves on this journey.
From my heart to your heart,
Fiona x
