About this course
This course lays the foundations of understanding yoga for pregnancy and develops a safe prenatal yoga practice.
Bliss Baby Yoga director and lead teacher Nadine O’Mara shares the basics of prenatal yoga to help you safely and appropriately adapt your yoga practice for yourself or to learn how incorporate a pregnant student within your mixed ability yoga class.
Whether it’s a strong vinyasa class that you are teaching or a yin yoga class, this course will help you feel confident in not only modifying poses to suit a pregnant student but also adapting your class so that they gain a lot from the practice.
By the end of this short course you should feel more comfortable with how to not only sensitively and appropriately modify your practice or class content but to hold the space for someone pregnant so that they gain a great deal from the practice.
In this course you will learn:
- Physiological and emotional changes and challenges for each trimester of pregnancy;
- How yoga can support pregnancy;
- What poses should be avoided by those who are pregnant;
- Specific modifications a teacher can offer as an alternative within a mixed class;
- Quick “go-to’s” for when a pregnant student arrives at class without you expecting it;
- Prenatal yoga therapy – supporting specific conditions during pregnancy;
- Other considerations a yoga teacher should be aware of to keep pregnant students comfortable.
- Experiential learning.
Pregnant students that come to your general classes will not only feel supported but they will also enjoy your class, feeling included rather than having to opt out of many asana poses. Or as a pregnant yoga practitioner, you will have a better idea of how to adapt your own practice.
While focused on the world of birth & postpartum, Nadine has also taught various styles of mixed ability yoga classes for over 18 years varying from Power Yoga to Restorative Yoga, adapting her teachings to incorporate pregnant students into these classes over this time. She is a lead teacher in our online Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training and brings this course in person to studios within Australia.
The course features an engaging mix of video and written content that is practical and informative and will help you feel confidant in looking after pregnant women/people in your yoga classes regardless of the style of yoga you teach.
- Please note, this is not a replacement for Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training if you plan to run dedicated Prenatal Yoga classes. Please refer to our Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Course for this.
This course is pre-recorded so you can work through the videos and reading at your own pace.
It will take you approximately three and a half hours to complete, not including the options for further reading provided through out.
The material is presented via video recordings with some text. You are asked to do some journalling to help embody the teachings. Links to optional further reading are provided should you wish to learn more.
All videos & handouts are downloadable so you can go back to refer to them at anytime.
You will have 12 months access to this course online but once materials are downloaded you will have them to keep forever.
You will need to complete the quiz with an 80% pass mark (you can re-sit if required).
Your certificate will be available for download at the end to use for CPD points with your chosen yoga association.

- Is this course for women only? Definitely not! All yoga teachers need to know how to modify their class for pregnant students including male, transgender or non-binary teachers.
- Will I be able to offer dedicated Prenatal Yoga classes with this course? No, you will need to do either our Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Course or our 85 hour RPYT Prenatal Teacher Training Course to be eligible to teach dedicated Prenatal Yoga classes. This course will help you modify your general class only.
