Supporting IVF with Yoga for Fertility

Bliss Baby Yoga Yoga for Fertility and ART Assisted Reproductive Techology
About this course

More than one in four couples worldwide experience infertility and of those a large majority experience the challenging journey of using IVF and other Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART).

Many women are beginning to realise that practicing yoga during this time provides them with physical and emotional support and can even enhance their reproductive health.

As a Yoga for Fertility teacher, it is important to have an understanding of the various types, terminology, treatments and possible side effects of ART that women will have experienced. By the time women come to a Yoga for Fertility class they will most likely have been on a rollercoaster of emotions, stress and physical challenges and will require sensitivity and understanding.

This module is designed as an extension to our Online Level 1 Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training and Online Level 2 Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training courses. Presented by experienced Yoga for Fertility teacher Tanya Neate, this module will provide you with the knowledge you need to guide those who are undertaking IVF in a fertility yoga class. Having had to overcome her own fertility challenges, Tanya is a source of inspiration and experience. She brings light to whom a potential client is, what they may have already experienced and what they will be looking for in a fertility yoga class.

In this module Tanya details the specifics of tests and treatments women may be offered including IVF, IUI, medications and surgery and how yoga can support ART outcomes. You will find out which asanas are particularly beneficial for fertility as well as sample class plans, an audio visualisation and led pranayama.

This module, designed to accompany our Level 1 + Level 2 Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training Courses,  will help you understand the journey of those undergoing ART, both from a medical and an emotional perspective, and how you can best support them during a fertility yoga class.

For an even deeper knowledge of this area,  please refer to our Online Level 2 Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training Course which provides video sample classes for the stages of IVF and a deeper understanding of asana benefits for fertility.

  • 1 x 45 minute Online Video Lecture with Fertility Yoga Specialist, Tanya Neate: “Helping your clients through the challenges of ART” with accompanying powerpoint handout.
  • 1 x 30minute Online Video Lecture with Fertility Yoga Specialist, Tanya Neate: “Understanding ART – Treatments & Possible Side Effects” with accompanying powerpoint handout.
  • 1 x 23 minute Online Video Lecture with Fertility Yoga Specialist, Tanya Neate: “Yoga for Fertility & ART – Case Studies” with accompanying powerpoint handout.
  • 2 x beautifully illustrated sample sequences
  • 7 minute Audio Recording & Script – Belly Breath practice
  • 7 minute Audio Recording & Script – Ovarian and Womb Cleansing Visualisation
  • Quizzes to test your knowledge of the content included in the course

Course comprises 5 non-contact hours in total, which can count towards required CPD (Continuing Professional Development) hours for Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia members (certificate of completion issued upon completion of the course content and quizzes).

This special professional development module provides important guidelines for teaching yoga for students who are undergoing ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) treatment for fertility. It covers the following content:

  • What you need to know about IVF and ART to teach Yoga for Fertility
  • Who your client is, and what they are looking for from a Yoga for Fertility class
  • Yoga and its relationship to ART outcomes
  • The effect of ART on women and couples
  • Therapeutic principles and tools for Fertility Yoga for ART
  • ART Treatments and Possible Side Effects

Once you’ve enrolled and your payment is confirmed, you’ll be sent an email with your log-in details to log into our special student section of the website where you can get started with your course.

Our Supporting IVF with Fertility Yoga Module is easy to navigate – it’s all clearly laid out and you don’t have to be a ‘techy’ person to figure it out!

This extension module consists of 3 modules, with a short quiz included at the end of the each module.  The quizzes are designed to help you consolidate the knowledge we share with you. An 80% pass mark is required, but don’t worry, the quizzes are multiple choice/ true-false and you can re-do them as many times as you need to.

Once you’ve reviewed all the content and passed the quizzes, you just need to give us your feedback (your feedback is sooo important to us!) and then you’ll receive your Completion Certificate that you can either print out or keep digitally to send to registration bodies (eg: Yoga Alliance / Yoga Australia) to gain all-important CPD (Continuing Professional Development Points).  The hours on your Completion Certificate for which you’ll be able claim CPDs are 5 non-contact hours.

A Completion Certificate (PDF electronic file) is provided once you’ve completed the course. The total course hours on this completion certificate is 5 non-contact hours.

Members of both Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia are required to complete ongoing professional development to keep their membership current. By completing our Bliss Baby Yoga Online Extension Modules, teachers are able to accrue some of these necessary professional development hours as well as enhance their knowledge and skills in this specialised area of women’s health.

(The following information re: Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance requirements for CPD was true at the time of publishing – please check the Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance websites via links below to confirm their requirements).

For Yoga Australia members, 12 CPD points (Continuing Professional Development) must be accrued each year to keep your membership active. These can be accrued through contact or non-contact hours of study. Our Online Fertility Yoga & ART Module is non-contact study, however as our course includes an assessment component (online quizzes), for Yoga Australia members (as per their Continuing Education Policy) the hours spent completing our course are counted as contact hours, core to yoga teaching (1 point per hour). This Online Extension Module is 5 hours, so Yoga Australia members will accrue 5 CPD points.

For Yoga Alliance members, according to their Continuing Education Requirements, every 3 years starting from your initial date of registration, each RYT and E-RYT must complete and log a minimum of:

  1. 45 hours teaching yoga, and
  2. 30 hours of yoga related training that is directly related to one of the Educational Categories, of which:

Our Online Supporting IVF with Fertility Yoga Module (5 non-contact hours) can therefore cover 5 of the 20 non-contact hours of study and contribute to these CPD requirements.

PLEASE NOTE that our Bliss Baby Yoga training courses are designed as post-graduate study for qualified yoga teachers, and are not alone designed to qualify graduates to teach prenatal / postnatal / fertility / restorative yoga classes to the public if they are not yet a qualified yoga teacher (having completed a minimum Level 1 / 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training).

The pre-requisite to enrol in our courses is at least 6-12 months consistent prior yoga practice experience – so that you are familiar with the basic postures / practices / terminology and can therefore gain the most from this training. We strongly recommend undertaking a 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training in addition to our specialised teaching before teaching any public classes, so that you can be insured as a qualified yoga teacher. We highly recommended undertaking this module in conjunction with or following completion of our Bliss Baby Yoga Online Level 1 Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training course or equivalent study.

Who is this course for

This module offers valuable professional development for yoga teachers and associated health professionals who would like to deepen their understanding of IVF and other Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) including the terminology, treatments and possible side effects. You’ll learn the guidelines for teaching Yoga for Fertility classes with consideration of the possible emotional and physical states class participants undergoing ART treatment may be experiencing.

The information offered in this course can also be helpful for  those who are on a journey to conceive, or undergoing IVF treatment themselves. This course can be undertaken for your own self knowledge and does not require you to be a pre-existing yoga teacher.

This module is an extension of the information included in our Online Level 1 Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training course and Online Level 2 Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training course, and we highly recommend you study this module in conjunction with our Level 1 + Level 2 Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training courses. Our Level 1 Yoga for Fertility course provides a foundation for this module, and our Level 2 Yoga for Fertility course then builds on this Supporting IVF with Yoga for Fertility module – with recorded video sample classes for different stages of the IVF cycle included in our Level 2 Yoga for Fertility course.

This module also complements our Online Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training course and Online L1 & L2 Restorative Yoga Teacher Training course.

Course Teacher
Tanya Neate

Tanya_Neate_Bliss_Baby_Yoga

Tanya Neate has spent over 10 years passionately pursuing knowledge of how to employ the power of yoga to support the fertility health of women. The journey began as a personal quest to find a way to overcome her own fertility challenges. What she discovered was so empowering and transformative, she wondered why fertility yoga classes were nowhere to be found!

It was this experience that inspired her dream to become a yoga teacher and share these practices with other women dealing with infertility. Tanya’s mission is to make fertility yoga classes as accessible as prenatal yoga now is.

Tanya has undertaken extensive hatha yoga teacher training and many specialised trainings in yoga for women’s health, including our Bliss Baby Yoga 100 hour Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training. She is a qualified and registered counsellor and is currently studying and working under mentorship in the field of yoga therapy.

Tanya runs weekly fertility yoga, prenatal yoga and postnatal mums and bubs yoga classes, as well as yoga for women’s health classes from her Melbourne-based studio Moon Tribe Yoga.

Tanya is a Skype facilitator for our Online L1 Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training course, and lead presenter for our Supporting IVF with Fertility Yoga online module (an advance module from our L2 Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training course).

“The sessions with Tanya were informative, inspiring, and so lovingly presented, thank you.”

What past course participants say
'I loved this module. It was very informative, specifically regarding poses and meditations. I have listened to the meditations a few times now and, combined with the poses, I feel confident and restored. Tanya is wonderfully aware of what ART parents are going through. Having gone through IVF 6 times, I can tell you, she GETS it.'- Heidi, USA
'I really enjoyed this course. I loved the combination of yogic philosophy, nurturing and science. I really liked the case studies – it gave me a much greater understanding of what women undergoing ART may be experiencing and how yoga can support that. Thank you for a beautiful course and for sharing your knowledge.'- Kimberley, NSW, Australia
'I very much enjoyed this specific part of the Fertility Yoga training as it gave me a better idea of what my students might be going through, helping me understand the importance of addressing their current physical and emotional state in order to offer them the most tailored yoga practice and answer their needs for each step of the ART process. It was just the right amount of information, without going into too much medical details, yet proving enough to have an idea of what the different ART routes are. Tanya is great, and I can tell by the softness of her voice that she cares a lot about the topic.'- Perrine, France
'I found this module very easy reading, extremely informative, clearly heartfelt and beautifully delivered. I feel confident in supporting women who are on their journey with fertility and ART. Thank you so much for creating this online program.'- Fiona, QLD, Australia
'As a woman and yoga teacher who is undergoing fertility treatment, it was an insight into how to teach and encourage my students to keep a positive mindset to allow them opportunities for a healthy retrieval and pregnancy. Tanya – you are very informative and speak clearly. Thank you for a great training.'- Larrelle, UK
'I am going through IVF myself and found the asana, pranayama, and meditation exercises very helpful in handling the stress of our recently failed implantation round. It also helped my husband juggle IVF and his highly stressful job as lawyer. The lectures have excellent content and are easy to understand. I am already applying almost everything that I have learnt because I can see its benefits immediately. Each round of IVF failure is getting easier to handle because of all the yoga tools taught in this course. Tanya is very knowledgeable and up to date with her information. ART is constantly changing as there are new studies coming out every day resulting in regular updates in IVF protocols. Tanya has done a wonderful job in explaining the complex language of ART.'- Ritcha, Sydney, Australia / Singapore
'I am a yoga teacher, but I am also someone who has been through fertility struggles, and IVF. I really enjoyed learning how to modify my teaching for different stages of treatment. I also love the visualisations and guided meditations, which I am excited to incorporate into my teaching. Tanya was great. I felt like she was clear and easy to understand. I also very much appreciate that she has deep experience with IVF/infertility. It makes it much easier to learn from someone who has actually been through these experiences themself.'- Abigail, Norway
'As a yoga teacher on my own secondary fertility journey, finding supportive information for all women's issue is extremely necessary and difficult to find. Thank you Bliss Baby Yoga for helping to make this information accessible to yoga teachers and promoting more specialized yoga classes to support a much needed area where there is lack. Normalizing all stages of a woman's journey is a great need. I practiced the case study practices included in the module, and I am welcoming a softer more feminine side to my yoga practice during this IVF cycle, which I did not do as much last year/round. It can feel quite lonely on this journey, so the fact that you have a course to support is the beginning of whatever part of what this fertility journey growth I am to experience, thank you! I appreciated Tanya's gentle voice, tone, and overall demeanour covering the topic. It is one of those sensitive topics that requires ongoing compassion. I could feel that coming through from Tanya. I hope to learn more from her!'- Bethany, USA
'I found this course really helpful and in depth, and I feel it will benefit my sharing of Fertility Yoga for women who are or might start ART. It gives such a good solid foundation as to what they may experience and how to make yoga be at its most nourishing for them individually. All of the advice and teaching techniques were amazing. Tanya, you are amazing and truly inspirational! Thank you for sharing your story and knowledge.'- Laurene, UK
'I found the course gentle and understanding. I've been through 3 rounds of IVF myself so some of it brought up a lot of memories but Tanya dealt with the challenges of it so beautifully. Professionally I found it very helpful as i was not sure how i would teach a woman going through stims and post-transfer, in comparison to fertility yoga that follows a natural cycle. I feel confident now to give the right advice. I found this course really helpful in giving me the tools I need to confidently guide a woman through yoga during her own IVF journey. Tanya was clearly very knowledgeable and experienced in this area.'- Jennifer, UAE
'I benefited greatly from this course on a personal and professional level. Personally, I am currently on my own fertility journey at the moment and, although I am not at the stage of using ART yet, this course helped me to better understand what women who are on this journey are going through and how to better understand, hold space and be compassionate towards them. Professionally, I will be able to implement the knowledge and techniques into my teaching practices and, if need be, my own practice (thank you!). I found all components of the course beneficial but I think hearing Tanya's own story really helped as she was able to teach from a lived experience perspective. I think Tanya being so open and honest about her own journey has really helped make this course unique and extremely beneficial for not only yoga teachers, but people in general. By Tanya sharing her own experiences, it means people can not only empathise with women on this journey, but also be compassionate towards them in society. I highly recommend this course.'- Simone, QLD, Australia
'This course has been invaluable and timely for me. I have been a coach, hypnotherapist and yoga instructor for several years now and have increasingly grown my interest in women's menstrual and emotional cycles, due to my own PMDD and 10 years of my own fertility issues. This course (along with your Level 1 & 2 Yoga for Fertility TT) has given me the extra tools I sought to ensure that all I want to teach and share with my clients is safe and well informed. I also began the FSH part of my first IVF cycle a couple of days ago, so the sequence for case study one was everything I needed personally this week. Tanya's calm teaching manner is contagious. I'd love to have her as my yoga teacher! Bliss Baby yoga programs are easily accessible and well delivered. I've learned so much, not only for my professional development, but also for myself as a woman on my own fertility journey. I feel so much better prepared now to support myself through my IVF process, and to support other women safely and conscientiously through their fertility journey's whatever stage they are at. Thank you!'- Katherine, UK

Everything was perfect; the atmosphere, all of the knowledge. The course was very informative, useful and inspiring. I engaged in this course during a lockdown and with my newborn at home, and I couldn't be happier. The Baby Bliss Yoga team is very professional and thanks to this course I feel confident to start my teaching career.' Marica (Italy), Online Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training graduate
