About this course
Many yoga teachers are not equipped with the knowledge to confidently and appropriately modify their class content to accommodate pregnant students.
Information that may have been provided as part of initial yoga teacher teacher training is often forgotten once teaching so it can be helpful to connect with this information again and dive a little deeper.
Or perhaps your teacher training didn’t cover this area with any thoroughness leaving you feeling unsure as to how to safely guide a pregnant student in your mixed level classes.
This comprehensive course, taught by Nadine O’Mara, Director of Bliss Baby Yoga, lead trainer, doula and birth educator, will give you the confidence and knowledge to provide modifications within your yoga classes to safely accommodate a pregnant student.
In this course you will learn:
- Physiological and emotional changes and challenges for each trimester of pregnancy;
- How yoga can support pregnancy;
- What poses should be avoided by those who are pregnant;
- Specific modifications a teacher can offer as an alternative within a mixed class;
- Quick “go-to’s” for when a pregnant student arrives at class without you expecting it;
- Prenatal yoga therapy – supporting specific conditions during pregnancy;
- Other considerations a yoga teacher should be aware of to keep pregnant students comfortable.
- Experiential learning as if you were a pregnant student.
Pregnant students that come to your classes will not only feel supported but they will also enjoy your class, feeling included rather than having to opt out of many asana poses.
While focused on the world of birth & postpartum, Nadine has also taught various styles of mixed ability yoga classes for over 18 years varying from Power Yoga to Restorative Yoga, adapting her teachings to incorporate pregnant students into these classes over this time. She is a lead teacher in our online Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training and brings this course in person to studios within Australia.
The course features an engaging mix of video and written content that is practical and informative and will help you feel confidant in looking after pregnant women/people in your yoga classes regardless of the style of yoga you teach.
- Please note, this is not a replacement for Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training if you plan to run dedicated Prenatal Yoga classes. Please refer to our Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Course for this.

Members of both Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia (and many other governing yoga bodies world wide) are required to complete ongoing professional development to keep their membership current. By completing our Bliss Baby Yoga CPD Modules, teachers are able to accrue some of these necessary professional development hours as well as enhance their knowledge and skills in this specialised area of women’s health.
(The following information re: Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance requirements for CPD was true at the time of publishing – please check the Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance websites via links below to confirm their requirements).
For Yoga Alliance members, according to their Continuing Education Requirements, every 3 years starting from your initial date of registration, each RYT and E-RYT must complete and log a minimum of:
- 45 hours teaching yoga, and
- 30 hours of yoga related training that is directly related to one of the Educational Categories, of which:
- At least 10 training hours must be Contact Hours.
- No more than 20 training hours may be Non-Contact Hours.
This course can therefore cover 3 of the 20 non-contact hours of study and contribute to these CPD requirements. Enrolment in our other CPD courses can similarly add to these requirements.
For Yoga Australia members, 12 CPD points (Continuing Professional Development) must be accrued each year to keep your membership active. These can be accrued through contact or non-contact hours of study. Our Incorporating a Pregnant Student in your Yoga Class Course is counted as non-contact study core to yoga teaching (2 points per hour as per Yoga Australia Guidelines). This CPD Module is 2 hours, so Yoga Australia members will accrue 7 CPD points.
PLEASE NOTE This course is not alone designed to qualify graduates to teach Prenatal yoga classes to the public – please complete our Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training should you be interested in running specific Prenatal Yoga classes.
